As the end of the month is upon us, I would like to congratulate the other rawhides on their completion of their 100%, 90%, 50%, etc. raw experiment. You all are a fabulous bunch and I admire your commitments, your curiosities, and your ability to admit to oopses or to recognize when something was [...]

Raw Dessert
Submitted by the Other Erin
Why give up sweet stuff when you’re eating raw? Here’s one I enjoyed early on in the experiment:
Vanilla Cupcakes with Lime Frosting (from Complete Idiot’s Guide, again)
1/2 cup almonds
1/2 cup macadamia nuts
1/4 cup sunflower seeds
1/4 cup almond butter
3 TB agave nectar/raw honey
1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
pinch cinnamon
1/4 cup avacado
3 pitted dates [...]

My Food Processor, My Friend
Submitted by the Other Erin
Dear Food Processor,
I’ve enjoyed getting to really know you over the past week or so. We didn’t hang out nearly that often before and I regret that. Sure there was the occasional foray into Hummus Land together, but that was very rare. I apologize now for not counting you as a [...]

I looked down and saw a moose. What do you see? Uh, oh. Now I’ll be looking for shapes in all my clemintine peels.

Check Mate

What do you do at 3:30?
Submitted by The Other Erin
I soak my nuts at 3:30.
Everyday, around 3:30, my stomach starts to rumble, letting me know it’s time for a snack. This was true pre-raw, too. Maybe it’s a leftover habit from elementary school days. It’s a good thing I have this built in alarm, too, because eating raw sometimes means preparation. [...]

Shopping the Perimeter
Submitted by The Other Erin
On Monday, armed with my grocery list, I went on my first raw shopping trip. They say that to eat the best you can possibly eat, you should stick to the perimeter of the grocery store. All the processed foods tend to be in the center of the store… lining the [...]

Top 10 Things I Learned While Raw
Submitted by the Other Erin
In no particular order of importance:
I prefer my vegetables cooked.
Macadamia nuts are amazing. They help make great “cheeses” and “soups”.
I wish I was not waiting to start composting until spring. There was a lot of food waste I could have used.
Clementines are a new favorite quick grab snack.
Raw makes my muscles feel [...]
